Fishing...Grenada Lake

grenada lake

Grenada Lake host several fishing tournaments each year and is known as a "Top 25 Fishing Spots" by "America's Top 100 Family Campgrounds."

Through combined efforts of the Mississippi Department of Wildlife Fisheries and Parks and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Grenada Lake, many ongoing tasks and projects have been undertaken to establish and reclaim the habitat of fish in Grenada Lake.

Crappie Masters Team Tournament Trail Magazine quotes Coy Sipes saying, "There's no comparison to Grenada Lake. I've never seen a lake that can consistently produce 3-pound fish like that."

Coy goes on to say, "I get plenty excited when I go to Grenada Lake. I can't think of any tournament held there when they haven't caught some big fish."

Ongoing projects between the C.O.R.P.S and M.D.W.F.P. have included the anchoring of more than 1,200 cedar trees on the lake bottom in an effort to form shelters for the fish.

Fish eggs are hatched at a state owned hatchery and then transported by tanker trucks to a 2 acre pond located at Skuna Turkey nursery pond on Corps property. Once the fish reach fingerling size they are then released directly into Grenada Lake, which consistently enhances the game fish population.
