Black Bass Fishing - Feeding Habits & Bait
Black Bass Feeding Habits There's some good bass fishing to be had at twilight. The black bass can be found in deep water rising to take insects at the waters surface or in shallow water chasing minnows boiling the water with rushes. At such a time, the expertise of the angler comes into little account. Providing you can make a good cast, the black bass will aggresively be attracted to activity. Natural Bait vs Artificial It can be argued in any corner as to the effectiviness of natural bait versus artificial. I can only add my own experiences in that, if hooked properly, nothing attracts a strike as well as a dead or live minnow, with a spinner attached a few inches above the bait. It is a thought that artificial bait excels in running waters and the opposite in ponds and lakes.
Live Bait Trick Try this for luring a black bass off his feed. Take a worm and hook it in the center, then put a minnow on the end of the hook so that the worm hangs from each side of the minnows head. This makes for a tempting treat. Trolling Using A Chugging Method In lieu of the latest high-tech sonar equipment, a fisherman of means can determine the feeding grounds of bass with the chugging method. Attach a heavy sinker to the end of your line. Next attach a three to four foot leader about three feet above the sinker. Then attach a hook baited with a minnow. Trolling slowly, allow the sinker to drag, touching the bottom now and then. The leader and minnow should extend to a 45 degree angle from the boat. Troll in a manner which compasses the pond or lake. Do not neglect to pass over shallows. When a strike is taken, make a wide circle and pass as near as possible in the same area. If another strike is given, you are pretty sure you have located a feeding ground. Happy fishing! Baits For Black Bass Fishing for black bass in the late spring brings the certainy in the bass taking anything living, from small bait to sizes too large for them to swallow. The better live baits for black bass fishing will be lamprey eels, crayfish, small catfish, minnows and even dragon-flies and grasshoppers in certain seasons. If all else fails, don't forget the nightwalker or night crawler worms.
